Indigenous children deserve to grow up healthy, confident, and proud of who they are. MFI works with Indigenous organizations to strengthen early childhood education and wellness outcomes for families in their local community so that they receive the resources needed to nurture their children's development, holistically.

Family Well-being

MFI supports community organizations in the cultural adaptation and implementation of family-centred programmatic activities and resources, from Maskwacis Health Services in Alberta to the Yukon First Nation Education Directorate.

Now we realize that western ways don’t always work for Indigenous people. We are taking a step back and using our own ways to improve our mental, emotional, and spiritual health.

Despite sustained efforts by Indigenous People and communities, historic underfunding of essential services has led to substantially poorer health and educational outcomes, substandard housing, high unemployment, and the over-involvement of child welfare services.

MFI recognizes the inherent rights and distinctiveness of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis People. We acknowledge the unacceptable past of colonial and assimilationist policies, the systemic loss of Indigenous life, culture and language, and the legacy of social inequities that continues to affect Indigenous Peoples.

To break this cycle, we believe that Indigenous communities must have direct control over their own services. We are committed to working alongside communities, leadership, and governments as they navigate existing funding structures, create sustainable service infrastructure, and develop early learning programs.

We are here to walk alongside Indigenous Peoples, and to contribute to happy, healthy environments for generations to come. Every Indigenous child in Canada should grow up knowing who they are and confident in their own abilities.
